Carrier Air Filtration Systems

Carrier has long been recognized as a leading manufacturer of HVAC systems. To complement its line of different home heating and air conditioning solutions, Carrier produces air filtration systems for both residential and commercial use. Call Baker & Sons Air Conditioning, Inc if you live in the Greater Sarasota and Bradenton, FL area and you’re interested in a Carrier air filtration system.

What to Look for in an Air Filtration System

Air filtration is another way to say air purification. What matters most is the Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) when comparing air filtration/purification systems. A rating of 16 is the highest efficiency available, 1 the lowest. When the rating is 16 almost everything larger 0.01 microns is removed. Microscopic particles such as bacteria, pollen, animal dander and other pollutants which cannot be seen by the naked eye are removed from the air.

A filter with a MERV 8 rating is considered a low efficiency filter. MERV 13 filters are rated as medium efficiency and MERV 15 as high efficiency filters. MERV 13 filters are effective for most commercial and institutional applications. Anything lower results in the development of a “sick” building.

Importance of Air Filtration Systems

There are multiple reasons for wanting to remove particulates from the air in your home or commercial building. Health is only one of them. Preventing wear and tear on equipment is another.

Almost every home and office today depends on computers. Dust in the air fouls PC and Mac processor heat sinks, cooling fans, etc. Overheating and a premature equipment failure is a common side effect.

Carrier Air Filtration

Carrier has developed two air purifications systems for home installation. The Infinity Air Purifier “doesn’t just filter air, it captures and kills airborne pathogens such as bacteria, viruses and mold” according to the manufacturer. It is designed to re-purify the air up to eight times per hour.

The Infinity Air Purifier works by ionizing the air as it enters the purifier. The filter is designed of a media that carries a charge that attracts the ionized particles in the air. Then any viruses, bacteria, mold spores or other allergens are destroyed.

Carrier also sells the Performance EZ Flex Cabinet Air Filter. This air filtration system works with both heating and cooling systems. It comes initially with MERV 10 filters, which can be upgraded to MERV 13 filters. The MERV 10 filters trap most bacterial, pollen, plant spores, smoke, animal dander, lint and dust, but does allow some viruses through. The advantage of this air filtration option is the fact that it doesn’t restrict air flow.

Carrier also produces a line of air purifiers known as the PerformanceTM Series. The EAC (Electronic Air Filtration) System uses the same amount of electricity as a 40-watt light bulb to deliver air filtration to the entire home.

Performance series EAC units work by first filtering the air that comes in through the return duct. Then the air passes through a series of ionizing wires. Collecting plates with positive and negative charges then attract the ionized particles. The air that then flows into the house is clean. UVC light is available on some units to guarantee the elimination of all micro-organisms.

Carrier provides commercial air quality products as well. It’s line of AERO® Air Handlers can meet the needs of buildings from 400 to 60,500 CFM. Installations include either indoor or outdoor designs.
